How to Choose Your Bridal Hairstyle

Picture
As a bride-to-be planning your wedding, there are so many decisions you have to make.  The location of your wedding is probably the first thing you're thinking about, but then you have details like the cake, the food, the flowers, your dress, shoes and all the fun glam accessories.  Oh, and we haven't even mentioned your bridal hair and makeup yet!  Most women are pretty adept at handling their own hair and makeup, but even if that's you, there are many reasons you should consider having a professional stylist do your hair and makeup on your big day.  The biggest reason is stress.  Problems will inevitably arise on your wedding day, so you'll want to make yourself available to manage them.  Having a mobile hair and makeup artist come to your location and serve you could be the most relaxing part of an otherwise hectic day.

Now, let's talk about your wedding hairstyle.  Of course, you can always get a custom style for your big day, but most people copy the look they want from a magazine or pictures they find on the Internet.  Pictures are the best starting point when you are shopping around for your ideal bridal and hair and makeup provider.

If you're curious about what's currently trending for wedding hairstyles, it's still the usual suspects!  Styles that pin the bride's hair half-up and half-down are very popular.  A trendy look is for the bride to rock a half-up and half-down style while the bridal party gets complete updos.  This arrangement makes for fantastic photos and really sets the bride apart!  Loose curls are also a popular option, whether they are natural or added with a curling iron/hot rollers.  Above all, go for a style that you love, while suiting your hair and overall look.

More Tips for Choosing a Great Bridal Hairstyle

Research, research, research.  The more sample pictures you find on the Internet and in magazines, the higher the chance you'll find a look you love and that suits you!

Go with a trial run.  Professional wedding hairstylists offer trial services that are done some time before your big day.  A trial will increase your overall cost, but the potential pay off is huge.  Not only will you get to meet your stylist before your big day, you will get to see first hand what the stylist is capable of doing to your hair.  You can experiment with a couple of different looks, or let them customize a style just for you, based off pictures of styles that you love.  If for some reason the trial doesn't go well, then you save yourself a major problem on your wedding day because now you have the time to find another stylist.

Take lots of pictures during the trial.  Take plenty of photos, from different angles, of the styles that you attempt during the trial.  The pictures will help you decide on the look you want and then you'll ultimately use them to recreate the look on the big day!

Try at least one brand new look.  If you're investing money in a trial, then you might as well try a look that's completely new to you.  Since you're already paying for the service, take a risk on a new style and see what happens!  Worst case, you don't like it and move on.  Best case, you've discovered a fabulous new way to style your hair.

Simulate the look of your dress during the trial.  It's probably not practical or possible to wear your actual wedding dress to the hair trial, but do the best you can to simulate it.  It's most important to wear something that matches the upper portion of your wedding dress.  If the dress is strapless, then wear a tube top or something similar.  If the dress is lacy near the top, then wear something similar so you can see how the hairstyles work with it.

Don't forget the hair accessories.  The trial is also the perfect time to experiment with various accessories.  A tiara is a popular option of course, but there are many floral and jeweled arrangements available, depending on your dress and personal style.  Play around with them and see what you like!

Wedding Hairstyles Featuring Short Hair

Picture
It might seem as though only women with long hair can flaunt beautiful hairstyles on their wedding day, matched perfectly with their wedding gowns.  From updos to wearing their hair loose, there are so many styles to choose from!

If you have short hair, don't fret because you can still have fun with your wedding day hairstyling.  Even though your locks are cropped, you can still exude glamour and femininity and look extra special on your big day.

What's really convenient about short hair is that it's very easy to maintain throughout the long wedding day and you won't need to worry about your hair being flattened or any carefully crafted curls starting to uncoil.  Instead of looking totally fixed up, it will let you look gorgeous yet casual and carefree at the same time.

Here are some simple styles you can experiment with before your big day.  Give them each a test run in the weeks leading up to your wedding and see which one looks best on you with your dress!
  • Create the illusion of long hair by slicking your hair back and attaching a big flowery or jeweled clip in the back
  • Push your hair back with a dainty headband
  • Tie a silky or sheer sash from the top of your head up to the nape and let the ends dangle down to your shoulders
  • Do up your hair in soft waves and work little jeweled pins randomly throughout your hairstyle to make your look glitter
  • Part your hair to one side and clip on an elaborate hairpiece on the other side
  • Brush your hair upwards and pin it down securely, then fasten with a floral headpiece - top it all off with a tiara or a jeweled comb
  • To keep it simple, slather on some styling serum and comb your hair the way it looks and feels best to you

Take your cue from all the glamorous famous women with short hair and be inspired to explore all the possibilities with your short hairstyle!

Glamourous Bridal Updos

Picture

On your big day, you definitely don't want to look ordinary.  You want a bold, elegant and dramatic look.  So, your best bet is to style your hair in an updo.  Done right, it can give you an entirely different aura on your wedding day and make you look glamourous!

Not all updos are created alike.  So you have to decide what kind of style would best suit your gown and your overall look.  Some updos lend a softer look while others are more structured and neat.

Here are a few updo ideas:
  • Go with a basic bun.  Comb your hair neatly and twist it into a bun, fastening it with a floral hairpiece or topping it off with a jeweled comb.
  • Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and pull it up into a loose bun.  Keep it secure with a jeweled hairpiece, which also helps dress up your hairstyle.
  • If you hair is naturally curly, you can smooth your hair in front and leave the curls pronounced in the lower sections.  Pin these up with glittery barrettes, making sure they create a swirly effect.
  • Give the 60s beehive a modern twist.  Just make sure you keep it looking sleek and shiny with a moisturizing serum, and don't go heavy on the hair spray.
  • Sweep your hair to one side and catch it all with decorative combs or pins.  Don't worry if some locks fall from the style - this will make it look softer.
  • For an edgier look, you can pull your hair up and allow a few locks to spike out from the style.  You can also have some tendrils framing your face.
  • Part your hair and slick back the sections with a styling product, then twist it all up.
  • Pulled-back ringlets make for a cute, bouncy look.

Make the most out of your updo by using accessories.  Be sure to select some glittery pieces to draw the eye to your hair, or even something floral, which would be perfect for a springtime or garden wedding.  Of course, you should also seriously consider wearig a tiara - not only will you feel like a princess on your wedding day, it's only right that you look like one as well!

The "Perfect" Hair for Your Wedding Day

Picture
What bride doesn't want to look their best on their wedding day?  And indeed they should, because all eyes are going to be focused on them at the wedding.  Everyone will be taking notice of the way the bride looks, the way she talks, the way she acts and the way she is dressed.

Memories of the day may fade over time, but in today's age of digital photography, videography, and social media, wedding photographs and videos will serve as a constant reminder of how beautiful the bride looked on the day of her marriage.  All the more reason to look nothing short of perfect on your wedding day, from top to bottom (shoes, dress, veil, hair and makeup).  Many brides find the process of choosing the "right" wedding hairstyle to be challenging and stressful.  After all, the way you look on your wedding day will be immortalized on social media and will be something you'll look back on for the rest of your life!

We're here to help with picking a hairstyle for your wedding.  To do that, there are so many questions we need to answer, like:
  • Should I wear my hair up or down?
  • Should I let my hair grow or use extensions?
  • Should I curl my hair or straighten it?

Here are a few tips to help answer these questions and more!

What is the Bride Wearing?

The overall look that a bride should have on her wedding day is something that is classy, elegant, and most of all, seamless.  Or, if you like to throw caution to the wind and go bold with an edgier style, that's fine too!  Most importantly, everything a bride wears (including hair and makeup) should match and complement the overall style/theme of the wedding.  So, when a bride is considering a suitable hairstyle, she should consider her gown, veil, headpiece and overall style.  The bride's hair should never compete with her wedding gown and her hair should also not obscure her gown, especially when she moves.

The hairstyle should be something that matches the bride's makeup as well.  Just like with the gown, the hairstyle should never take the attention away from the bride's face.

Where is the Wedding?

A bride should also give serious thought to where the wedding will take place when choosing what bridal hairstyle to wear.  Long locks done in loose curls flowing down her back may be great for garden weddings taking place during the daytime, but a formal updo is a must if the wedding is to take place at a grand cathedral, especially in the evening.  If the wedding is going to be done at the beach or somewhere particularly windy, a loose hairstyle would be the worst choice to have because the wind will blow it to ruin.

What is the Bride Doing?

A bride does more than just walk down the aisle and say "I do" to the man of her dreams on her wedding day.  We mentioned that above all, she will be getting photographed frequently and from all angles.  Depending on how the wedding and reception will be done, she will also do a lot of socializing, dancing and dining on her wedding day.  Whatever hairstyle she chooses to wear on the big day should be something that will not wilt on her head as she goes through the long day.

We hope that answering these questions will help you choose the style that's ultimately "right" for your big day.  Above all, stay true to yourself and pick something that you love!
