How to Prepare for Your Wedding Day

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life. You’ll want to look and feel your best on that big day. Having healthy hair and skin will contribute to a beautiful wedding glow. On your wedding day, you’ll be the centre of attention. While your dress and accessories will enhance your beauty, true confidence comes from knowing that you’re walking down the aisle with a natural radiance. You’ll want to look back on wedding photos with fondness and not have the attention shift from your beautiful dress to the glaring blemish on your face.

But not to worry — breakouts and other skin problems can be managed with proper actions in advance of your wedding, such as proper sleep and healthy eating or sticking to an exercise regimen. Seeing a dermatologist and performing regular facials can also help boost your natural glow for the big day. To make sure that your bridal hair and makeup is flawless on the day of your wedding, you should be planning and sticking to a beauty routine months in advance.

9 to 12 Months Out

About a year from your wedding, you’ll want to start thinking about how you want your hair and makeup done. It can be helpful to collect photos of possible looks or use an online application such as Pinterest to organize inspiring images of bridal looks. At this point, you can also start thinking about whether you want to grow your hair or cut it for the big day.

Once you’ve got an idea of what would look good on you, set a budget and research local bridal stylists. Before settling on a stylist, shop around to compare prices and make sure you get someone who can travel to the wedding site. If you’re looking to tone up or improve your energy levels, you can start to think about a workout plan about a year from the wedding. Of course, you’re perfect just the way you are, but adding some exercise to your routine can improve the health of your hair and skin and add to your glow on the big day.

If you decide to start working out for your wedding, choose an exercise regimen that is enjoyable and matches your ability level. Even light workouts like yoga can improve your look on the big day.

6 Months Out

By now, you should know how you want to look for your wedding and should have narrowed down your list of potential stylists. Now, you can arrange hair and makeup consultations to see who does the best job at perfecting your look. If you’re using different stylists for hair and makeup, schedule your appointments for the same day so that you can see the complete look. Bring references such as photos and accessories for the stylist. Seeing a picture of your dress, or Pinterest boards of your ideal makeup, helps the stylist to understand your expectations.

Once you’ve decided on a stylist, book them for your wedding day and a trial run of your hair and makeup a couple months before the wedding. If you have any skin issues, it’s good to look for a dermatologist. You should see a dermatologist six months before your wedding to start treating any problems and one day before the wedding to make sure your skin is glowing.

If you’re considering grooming your eyebrows with tinting or microblading, now is the time to start seeing a professional. Visiting a dermatologist or brow professional at this point will help you set up a tailored skincare routine so you look your best on the big day.

4 to 5 Months Out

At this point you can book any hair appointments that will be necessary to prepare or maintain your style on the day of the wedding. If you’ll be needing trims or touch-ups to colour, you’ll have to book several appointments to keep your hair healthy till the big day.

It’s useful to start doing routine facials at this time to help rejuvenate your skin and get it looking its best. If you’re testing any new skin treatments or products, do so now to make sure you don’t get an unwanted reaction on your wedding day. For those who may be a seeking a spray tan or bronzer, test this out a few months before the wedding to make sure you like the way it looks.

2 to 3 Months Out

As the wedding approaches, you should be finalizing the details on your bridal hair and makeup. Do your trial run with the stylist to see how everything will look and make sure it’s all to your liking. Try to wear the trial hair and makeup for about six hours, to make sure it’ll hold up throughout the celebrations on the big day.

You should also take photos of your bridal hair and makeup from several different angles to see the full beauty of your look. If you’re planning to have a manicure or pedicure for your wedding, now is the time to start regularly grooming your nails. Whether done at home or professionally, it’s important to trim and clean your nails and avoid cutting your cuticles. Acrylic and gel manicure weaken your natural nail so you should avoid them until your wedding to allow your nails to grow strong. If your bridal nail polish is light or clear, you may want to avoid dark nail polishes as these can stain your nails.

2 Weeks Out

Get your last hair trim or any touch-ups to colouring a couple weeks before your wedding. Two weeks allows any colour to settle in your hair, making it look that much better on the big day. Continue your skin routine and moisturize everyday. Get your last facial a couple weeks before the wedding so your skin has time to settle from any redness or extractions.

It’s also nice to get a massage at this point to help reduce stress and tension throughout your body. To make sure that everything goes smoothly on the day of your wedding, contact your stylists and bridesmaids to confirm that everyone knows where and when they need to be on the big day.

1 Week Out

By now, everything should be finalized with your stylists but it’s still good to confirm any upcoming beauty appointments. If you’re getting any waxing done, do it a week before the wedding to allow time for bumps and redness to subside. Also do any tanning or bronzing at this time so the colour has time to set in nicely before the big day.

Pack an emergency beauty kit with any makeup items that you’ll need for touch-ups throughout the ceremony. Mints, Advil, and deodorant are also good to include in your beauty kit. Do your final manicure and pedicure the day before your wedding and make sure you get a good night’s sleep for the excitement to come.

The Big Day

The day of your wedding has finally arrived and after months of planning, you can rest easy and take in all the joy of the celebration. Start your beauty routine with a shower at least four hours before the wedding starts. Eat a healthy breakfast or lunch and stay hydrated throughout the preparations. Let your stylists handle your hair and makeup and before you know it, you’ll be walking down the aisle. At this point, all that’s left to do is enjoy your big day and create memories that you and your spouse will cherish for years to come.
