Wedding Hair and Makeup

Let us come to you and give you the look of your dreams!  We are wedding hair style specialists!  We’ve been there, done it, and bought the t-shirt!  Speaking from our experience, here are several things to consider for your bridal hair style.

Less is more.  You don’t always need an extravagant hair style for your big day.  You will feel most beautiful just being yourself.  Your goal should be to present the absolute best version of yourself and we are here to help you achieve that!

Hair extensions.  We highly recommend extensions, even if you already have thick, luscious hair!  Extensions plus texture powder helps hold the style of your choice and gives you more to pin to when using hair accessories.  Extensions also make updos look much fuller!

Hiding your hairline.  To achieve that super-thick look for your photographs, use a hair-thickening coloured powder along your hairline and part.  A little will go a long way and you’ll get that thick look in your photos.

Hair colouring.  Avoid any drastic colour changes right before the event.  Best practice for colour switching is to do it one week before the event.

Style consultation.  Your hairstyle on your big day is all about you.  Nobody else.  Find photographs of what you like and have them ready at your consultation appointment.  Also, the way your hairstyle and wedding dress work together is very important.  You and your stylist will work out the details and then you can reveal your look to friends and family.  Following this process will save you a lot of headache because seeking the opinions of others early on will leave you feeling conflicted and indecisive.  Focus on what you like and what you want because it’s your day!  When you’ve decided on your style with confidence, everyone will love it!

Washing your hair.  Don’t shampoo on the morning of, only the day before!  Another tip is to apply a clear gloss product.  It will give your hair that glass-like shine that will look marvelous in your photos!

Plan for extra time on the day-of.  Always book extra time with your hair and makeup team on the day-of because unfortunately, problems happen!  Humidity is often a problem, you may not love your look, your emotions may cause your makeup to run, etc.  Extra time will help deal with these problems.  Rushing your hair and makeup stylists will almost always result in problems!

We often hear people talking about doing their own makeup for their wedding.  While this is definitely possible, we advise that only seasoned makeup applicators attempt it.  If you regularly wear makeup and feel comfortable applying your look, then go ahead!  Otherwise, call us!  The main factors to consider with makeup application for your wedding day are making sure it holds up for the whole day and that it looks good for all the expensive photos you’ll be taking.

An often overlooked factor in deciding whether or not to employ a professional makeup artist is the overall stress level on the wedding day itself.  There’s no doubt that your wedding day will be hectic.  There will inevitably be problems you’ll need to solve on the fly.  Allowing a professional to apply your makeup can give you some serenity on an otherwise stressful day.  Well-meaning friends and family members can also distract you, but your hair and makeup artist can insulate you from potential distractions while you’re getting ready for the ceremony.

Whether or not you decide to use a professional makeup artist on your wedding day, you’ll want great skin on the day of for ideal makeup application conditions.  If the budget will allow it, we recommend bi-weekly facials.  Facials will help your overall complexion and create ideal conditions for the application of airbrush foundation.  If you can’t afford professional facials, research some DIY solutions for bridal skin care.

Whatever you do, don’t forget the waterproof mascara!  It’s essential for holding up your look in hot weather and lasting through the tears :)
